Frequently Asked Questions [FAQs]

How long is each lesson?

For individual lessons, each lesson will run for 30 minutes. For group lessons (there can be 2 to 3 students for each group lesson), each lesson will run for 45 minutes. Please inquire if you wish lesson(s) with a different length.

Do you always teach online?

I commonly teach either at my home or online. As I am based in Melbourne, Australia, if you are elsewhere, your lesson(s) will be held online.

What if I do not have any textbook or resource for the lessons?

There is no set textbook for my lessons, as I prefer to teach whatever my students wish to learn. I can either share resources that I have access to with you or get a book for you (you will have to reimburse me the book fee later).

Should I learn individually or in a group?

That depends! If you have one or two friends who want to learn the same area, you might wish to learn in a group! Or you might prefer learning individually, as you would like your lessons to focus on yourself specifically.

Do you only teach students who plan to become a professional musician?

Not at all! My aim as a teacher/educator is to share my knowledge and/or skills to assist as many people as I can with their learning, not necessarily tutoring someone to become a professional musician. Therefore, everyone is welcome!

For music lessons, what genres of music do you teach?

The genres of music that I normally teach are classical, contemporary and modern. However, I am opened to teach any genres of music.

Testimonials

“The lessons with Jamie, were very clear and easy to understand. She clearly had experience with different types of teaching styles and students, to keep the lessons entertaining and informative. As someone that wanted to learn specific pieces rather than going from the basics, she helped suggest simplification to the pieces to make it easier to get started on as well as introduce terminology as it becomes necessary.”

Owen, Student

“I have been learning piano from Jamie for more than 2 years and I am very satisfied with her teaching. She is always patient and willing to help me in any way. Jamie is persistent with children who are not confident and are slow learners. She encourages me to learn more and work harder. When I was learning a very difficult song, she helped me by giving me different strategies. Jamie also has a great sense of humor which always makes the lessons fun and enjoyable. She is an amazing teacher and spectacular role model.”

Lucy, Student

“Jamie is well organized, friendly and encouraging as an instructor who always puts the focus on the student in the lessons. Each lesson is always very well thought out with a clear focus, but Jamie is flexible enough to improvise and change the lessons should the need arise whilst maintaining a high standard in the quality of her teaching. She is very engaging to the point that even I, a remote student who lives on the other side of the country, feel as if she is in the room with me. Thank you for all your guidance, Jamie!”
